FAQs

What is a dietitian?

A dietitian is a university-trained health professional who understands how nutrition affects the body and can help you improve your health and wellbeing. Through the latest scientific information as well as personal support, a dietitian will provide you with expert nutrition and dietary advice, and work with you to develop a personal plan to meet your needs. Dietitians can treat a wide range of health conditions (see the Services page on this website) as well as support your wellbeing through all different stages of life.

What happens in an initial assessment?

An initial assessment with me will take between 60-90 minutes and will begin with information gathering about your current nutrition concerns, your medical history, any medications or supplements you take, social history including family and work circumstances, measurements if appropriate (mostly in children rather than adults), nutrition related clinical symptoms you experience, and your food and eating history. I will then provide you with some education for your specific nutrition concerns and together we will decide on some changes to make depending on your nutrition diagnosis.

How often do I need to see you?

It depends! We can determine together how often and how many times you would like to see me depending on your specific nutrition needs, the support you require and how your progress goes. There are no set time frames or session numbers.

Do you eat healthily all the time?

I firmly believe that “food is food” and all foods have a role in nourishing our bodies, not just in physical ways but also emotional and social ways too. You will find me both in the fresh food section of my local grocer finding the yummiest fruit and vegetables, but also in the confectionary aisle of the supermarket finding my favourite sweets. In both my work and home life I consider a Health at Every Size, non-diet approach, where I recognise every person has different needs, and I will work with you to create individualised nutrition plans and provide ongoing support.
